Where Powerful Missions Meet Masterful Storytelling
Nonprofits thrive on connection, mission, and—perhaps most importantly—storytelling. At the heart of every nonprofit’s work lies a powerful narrative waiting to be shared. That’s where WellTold: The Nonprofit Storytelling Conference comes in. On April 24, 2025, in Fargo, North Dakota (with a virtual option available), we’re bringing together nonprofit professionals, communication experts, and mission-driven leaders for an event that is as much about action as it is about inspiration.
So, what makes WellTold different from your typical nonprofit conference? It’s not just about sitting in a room and listening. It’s about engaging, learning, and walking away with tangible tools to make your mission’s story impossible to ignore.
A Dream Brought to Life
This conference has been a long time in the making. Originally planned for May 2020, the world had other plans. Fast forward to today, and we’ve reignited the vision with even greater clarity: to create a space where nonprofit professionals can come together, connect, learn, and grow.
Hosted by Tellwell Story Co. & Studio in collaboration with DonorDock, a nonprofit CRM and fundraising tool, WellTold is designed to help nonprofits master the art of storytelling while networking with some of the best in the industry.
“We love nonprofits. That’s a space we do great work in. We have great case studies, and we wanted to get back into it. This conference is an extension of that,” says Max Kringen, one of the lead organizers of WellTold.
What to Expect: A Day of Action-Packed Learning
From the moment attendees arrive, they’ll notice that WellTold is not your typical nonprofit conference. It’s an experience designed with intention and engagement at the forefront.
Pre-Conference Welcome Party
Before we dive into the conference, we will kick things off with a welcome party on Wednesday night at Wild Terra. We believe in “connection before content.” Meeting fellow attendees in a casual setting before the official event begins sets the stage for meaningful conversations and collaborations.
The Conference Experience
The conference itself takes place at the Plains Art Museum, an intentional choice to support local nonprofits. Throughout the day, attendees will see a commitment to reinvesting in local mission-driven organizations:
- Lunch will be provided by Heart-N-Soul Community Café, a nonprofit committed to food accessibility.
- A happy hour hosted by Hope Blooms—where event florals are repurposed into bouquets for community members.
- A lineup of incredible speakers ready to equip you with practical storytelling strategies.
Beyond great food, drinks, and conversations, WellTold is designed to be hands-on and interactive. Instead of just listening, you’ll engage, apply, and walk away with practical frameworks to help your nonprofit tell its story more effectively.
Speakers That Inspire—and Equip
This year’s lineup is stacked with some of the best minds in nonprofit storytelling. Here’s a sneak peek at a few speakers you won’t want to miss:
Lisa Nelson-Haynes – Chief Program Officer, StoryCorps
StoryCorps has mastered the art of capturing compelling narratives in just five minutes. Lisa will share how nonprofits can apply the same principles to their storytelling strategies.
Jon McCoy – We Are For Good
A thought leader in nonprofit storytelling, Jon will introduce frameworks that help organizations turn mission statements into movements.
Patrick Kirby – Do Good Better
Known for his high-energy approach, Patrick will host a fundraising and storytelling therapy session where attendees can get live feedback on their fundraising challenges.
Janese Evans – Brain Noodling and Strategic Toolbox
Janese brings a unique approach to storytelling strategy that helps nonprofits articulate their vision more clearly.
These speakers, along with many more, will offer insights that go beyond theory—they’ll provide frameworks and action steps that you can apply immediately.
The WellTold Community: A Network Beyond the Conference
Attending WellTold isn’t just about one day of learning. We’re launching an exclusive online community where attendees can continue conversations, access resources, and participate in monthly office hours with the Tellwell team and experts from DonorDock.
“Accountability is the best tool for action. The WellTold community isn’t just another Slack channel—it’s an intentional space where nonprofit professionals can engage at the level that makes sense for them,” says Annie Wood, executive producer of WellTold.
