Welcome to Tellwell’s weekly Plog (photo-blog)!

We did some learning, we did some working, and we did some welcoming this week. Let’s see what went down at Tellwell!

A group of smiling people posing in front of a stage with a wooden backdrop and a sign that reads "AAF North Dakota." The stage features a microphone and podium, and the group is dressed warmly in jackets, suggesting a winter event or gathering. Glasses and tableware are visible in the foreground on a table.

This week’s writer

Hey readers, it’s Kari! I’m the video content specialist here at Tellwell and I have the pleasure of writing this week’s plog. As part of the film team, I conduct interviews, direct talent, write storylines, and so much more!

Film Team Ed-Venture

The film team started the week off with an Ed-Venture (Education Adventure)! On Monday, we spent some time in the studio practicing our on-the-spot interview skills and testing out new camera & lighting techniques. We then started our Tuesday morning with coffee and a bite at Brewhalla, then made our way over to Railyard Offices for some teaching and learning.

Each member of the team created a presentation to teach something we have been working on lately! We each learned how to budget film projects, the importance of combining film & photography on shoots, how to write SEO-driven blog content, and the importance of hiding lav mics. An array of subjects that left us all with some new knowledge. Great work, film team!

A group of five people is smiling for a selfie in front of a sign that says "RAILYARD" in large, metallic letters. They are dressed warmly in winter jackets, with a modern industrial-style space in the background featuring glass doors, exposed beams, and neutral tones. The atmosphere suggests a friendly and casual moment, possibly at a workspace or community hub.
A group of four people is seated around a conference table in a meeting room with dark blue walls. A man is presenting, sitting at the table with a laptop in front of him. A large screen behind him displays a slide titled "E: Explain the steps," with the subheading "How to budget a dang film," accompanied by an image of hands working on a notepad. The table is cluttered with notebooks, pens, a coffee cup, and water bottles, indicating an active brainstorming or instructional session. A whiteboard is visible on the wall to the left.

AAF-ND Lunch-And-Learn!

The entire team attended this month’s AAF-ND lunch event, “10 Social Media Trends to Track in 2025” with featured speaker Arik Hanson. We all learned so much about what is trending, the changes being made within the space, and how to get the most out of our social media presence. It was such an intriguing and fun conversation to be a part of, we can’t wait to start implementing some of the things we learned!

Welcome, Jenny!

We have a new face around the office! Say hello to Jenny, our new Story Maker Success Manager! She will be growing and maintaining Story Maker relationships, making sure they are strong, consistent, and built on trust.

When asked what she was excited about when it comes to joining our team, this is what Jenny shared:

“I’m thrilled to step into this new position, get to know and build strong relationships with the incredible Tellwell Storymakers, and represent Tellwell in the community as a brand ambassador and storymaker recruiter. I can’t wait to be part of such a passionate and inspiring team!”

Along with her excitement, she did give us a heads-up:

“I am a jokester and have been known to bust out a cartwheel or dance move randomly so beware, you have been warned.”

She spent her first few days adjusting to the office, decorating her desk, and spending one-on-one time with several team members. We are beyond excited and so lucky to have her join our team, welcome Jenny!

Quiet on set!

The film team was split into two groups this week, covering some ground across the state. One group spent the day in Bismarck at the ND State Capitol for Afterschool Day On The Hill! This event showcases afterschool programs serving youth throughout the state. B-roll was captured and interviews were conducted, such a successful day!

A person wearing a cap operates a professional camera with a monitor, filming a group of children seated and standing in front of a podium in a large hall. The scene includes two flags, one American and one state, as well as a marble wall and wooden doors in the background. The children appear to be part of a formal or celebratory event, with some wearing traditional clothing. The setup suggests an official or cultural gathering, possibly in a government building.

The other group spent time locally in Fargo, conducting the final interview and some additional B-roll sequences for a super exciting film that will be coming soon. Next stop: post-production!

With production gearing up for several projects, the film team will be out and about more often so get excited for behind-the-scenes photos!

Multiple professional cameras are set up to capture the scene, including a close-up view displayed on a monitor. A photographer operates a camera with a large lens while a softbox light provides even illumination. Abstract artwork hangs on the wall in the background, and the room's neutral tones contribute to a polished and professional atmosphere.
That wraps up this week! Keep an eye out for our next plog, coming January 31!
